  1. Wagon Wheel Bar/Restaurant- CountyTrunk O, South – possibly haunted by a former owner, a Mr. Applegate. Numerous reports of odd occurances there.

  2. Latimer House – Walworth Ave, Delavan – rumors of ghostly occurances, especially in the attic area. This is from when Latimer House was a restaurant. This was on their webstite: "One of the first things we usually get asked is if the building is haunted. This home has a history, being over a century old, and operated, at one time, as a sanitarium. While no apparitions have been sighted, fellow staff have heard or witnessed, on more than one occasion, the typical door slamming and footsteps, lights being turned on and off, as well as the commotion of a roaring party occurring in the dining room, after hours."

  3. Ihnen's Pet Shop – Downtown Delavan – This was mentioned to me in a ghost hunting meeting many years ago.

  4. Jackson apartments, the corner of Main and Walworth Ave, Delavan – rumors of lady ghost wandering the top floor, both inside and out. Also seen outside building.

  5. Our old house in the 500 block of Parish St. Delavan – too many occurances to list here. Mostly harmless, moving things around, knocking things off shelves, pictures off of walls, etc.

  6. Lisa Marie Dunn's childhood home in Darien – Knocking on walls, being scratched, noises and growls, apparition of a girl in white nightgown. This from Lisa.... "My daughter and I would hear three distinct knocks right at our heads in each of our bedrooms at night when sleeping. What was so freaky was that they were knocks coming from the OUTSIDE of the house…as if whatever it was was trying to enter the house. It was never from the inside. I would be scratched with three “claw” marks in the middle of the night and wake up to welts on my arms from them in the morning. My boyfriend at the time refused to visit anymore because of the noises and growls he would hear when he tried to come downstairs to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. That house is just full of negativity. It sat for a long time between the time my mother passed and my dad moved out to live at assisted living. It had been abandoned and the things I used to see in my room as a little girl…that I had always thought I created only in my mind…came back and had free reign while no one was there. So when the kids and I decided to move there after Dad passed, they were not happy to have us there…the upstairs was especially haunted. I later learned that a teenage girl had sadly ended her life in Maddie’s bedroom many decades prior to my parents even purchasing the home in the early 70’s, so that explains some of the trapped stagnant negative energy that probably resided there. I believe I saw her a few times when I was a little girl. She was always in a long white nightgown staring at me with long dark hair and smiling, but she didn’t look human…she looked transparent and it was horrifying to me. I have always been able to easily astral project and that happened a lot to me in that home as well. I’d wander all over the property at night and come back with a “thump” back into my body before sunrise. Mom always knew that the house was full of “something,” but she didn’t know what…her deep faith and prayers probably kept a lot of it away while she was still living there with Dad."

  7. The brick house on the corner of 5th and Washington – haunted by a Laura Smith who was found hung in the house. Hauntings stopped when her husband died.

  8. Childcare Center on Hobb's Drive – reports of a cloaked figure seen by several people.

  9. Antique Shop at 116 Walworth Ave, Delavan – I'm not sure I got the address right on this one. That address is where Jonathan's Restaurant is now and I don't remember any antiques stores there. Anyway, there were reports of disembodied voices in the basement.

  10. 208 S. 3rd St. Delavan – Apparition of an elderly lady with a broom

  11. 202 S. Main St. Delavan – Reported suicide of a young woman. In 1998, reports of seeing a teenage girl ghost.

  12. Deaf School Old Dorm – 9 year old boy died of leukemia. His ghost was seen by several after that.

  13. The Village Supper Club – Someone reported hearing “Hello” when no one was around. A handyman named Frank reportedly died there. And it was also reported that a headstone was found in the crawlspace.

  14. Lake Lawn Resort, Delavan – Reports of ghosts wandering in the enclosed walkways between buildings. This also from a webpage called Lake Lawn Resort " The ghosts of Native Americans in "old-time" dress have been seen (either shadowy, or crystal clear), wandering on the golf course area. The ghosts of former circus workers have been seen (either shadowy, or crystal clear), wandering on the golf course area. The sound of an elephant "trumpeting" has been heard coming from the lake."

  15. The Elms Road Butcher – This one is a little questionable since I haven't located a “Elms” road in the area, but here's the legend. “As the legend goes there was a man that used to Live on elms road he was a butcher and was the butcher for that town one night he had went crazy and chopped his family up one by one in the local butcher, Later that night he hand hung him self in the barn in the woods… “

  16. The former Timm house, 204 N 3rd St. Delavan - The following from Max Timm.. "The family that lived there before us informed us a couple years ago that the reason they sold the house was because their two young girls were so tormented and terrified of the hauntings. We lived there for about 23 years and the residual hauntings were constant. We all had our own very specific encounters multiple times of whispers, voices, a woman in black (even our guests/non-family members experienced her), plenty of bad decisions and experiences with a Ouija board, and just an overall feeling that the house was haunted. The irony is that we loved that house and had so many very very happy memories there. We were all extremely sad to sell it. So we were never terrified enough to move out early (ha…but one of my sisters might argue that)."

  17. Delavan Theater – Walworth Ave. Delavan – Investigated by Tina Anderson and her group. Initially there was not much activity in the lobby or bathrooms. There were high EMF readings in the middle of the theater and on the stage. When they were on the stage, they heard voices in conversation, when played back on a voice recorder they heard a voice say “Get out of my house”.They had an SLS camera focused on the stage which shows stick figures where ghosts may be and that camera showed 2 figures who weren't visible to the eye. Upstairs, the bathroom doors would open on their own. They closed them repeatedly and the doors kept opening again. When they were in the projection room area, they were demanding that the entity show themselves and a Grandfather clock began chiming in another room. The clock was not set to chime. They went back for a second investigation and once again the upstairs bathroom doors were playing 'door tag' with them. They also got a tall figure on the SLS camera again and on the audio recorder they heard the sound of something metal being dragged across the floor. That's it. I'm sure I probably forgot something, but Tina can add whatever I missed.

  18. The Old Landon Pet Food Factory & Warehouses – Hiway 50 across from Dancing Horses – I believe now it's a pet hotel and, ironically, a haunted house feature. Here's the story as told by me. I used to work there. “This story i can vouch for since i worked there when the hauntings began. For a long time, the Landon family ran a business on highway 50 near the intersection with 67. It started out as a mink ranch. I guess it was highly successful and won all kinds of awards for its furs. Harry Landon, the patriarch of the family, at some point developed a pet food unlike any on the market at the time. It was soft-moist and came in a tube like sausage, where it could be sliced off in patty shapes, crumbled and fed to your dog. Eventually other huge companies formulated their own soft-moist formulas, like gainesburgers, but Landons were the first. There were 3 houses on the Landon property. One for Harry Sr. and his wife, one for Harry Jr. and one that either one of the Landon grandsons would live in, or they would rent it out. Eventually, with the rise of PETA and animal rights, the fur industry tanked and Landons closed the mink ranch and put all their efforts into pet foods. This is about when i began working there. They were in the process of tearing down the mink sheds and the smell of mink still hung pretty heavy in the air. Just before i began working there, Harry Landon had a stroke that left him partially paralyzed and it made talking impossible for him, but still, every day Harry would shuffle through the factory waving hello to every employee there. Everyone loved Harry. In contrast to Harry, his son, Harry Jr. was about as anti-social as could be. He took over the business after Senior became incapacitated, and it really looked like he hated being there. I would meet him some mornings at the coffee machine, would look him in the eye and say good morning, and he would turn and walk away without even acknowledging my existence. Harry Jr. ran things most of the time i was there, but near the end of that time, he went through some changes. First, his son Steve was killed when his car drove off the bridge in the inlet. I'm sure that had some effect on Harry, though he never showed it outwardly. For another thing, he married a woman who was an interesting match. She did love furs. She wore them all the time. And it seems she loved Harry's money. She wouldn't live with Harry on the Landon property, but chose to live in an apartment in New York, where Harry would visit her most weekends. Us poor factory folk took to calling her Alexis, after the rich bitch on the tv show Dynasty. I'll get to the ghost stuff eventually. I promise. Anyway, Harry Jr. called a meeting one day at work where we were notified that he was selling the business. So Landon Company became Hubbard Milling Co., Landon Division. Harry was to stay on as one of the executives. So he kept his office and he kept the houses. This, however, did not improve his state of mind. If anything he became more morose and irritable than ever. Then one day we came in to work and we heard that Harry had been told to pack up the stuff from his office and he was escorted out of the building. I assume they took his keys as well, since he never came back into the building. He still lived in one of the houses on the property. We could see him every once in a while, but there was a very uneasy feeling about him. No one ever said what he did to lose his position. There were lots of rumors, but i never learned for sure what it was. It wasn't long after that, we heard that Harry had died. Committed suicide. I think he asphyxiated himself by running the car in the garage, or running a hose from the tailpipe to inside the car. Rumors again. But no one was terribly surprised. What did surprise us is when he started haunting the offices. How did we know it was Harry? Well, at one time Harry had tried to quit smoking cigarettes and he had substituted tobacco products for a healthier herbal cigarette. Those things had a very distinctive sweet aroma and you could always tell when he was around by the odor. A few weeks after he died, the odor of those cigarettes would waft through the halls of the office building. It became such a regular occurrence that the cleaning lady, who cleaned offices in the morning before office hours, refused to go in alone. She knew it was Harry. Some may think that maybe the odor just was imbedded in the carpet or walls and that certain weather conditions might bring it out. A natural explanation. But it really didn't matter what the weather was and the smell would come and go rapidly, or would move from place to place. I was one of the people who would go into the office in the mornng with the cleaning lady till she felt safe. I smelled it myself. Then i began hearing things about sightings inside the factory. New people, who hadn't known Harry, began asking who the man in brown with the fedora was that they saw walk in the warehouse on second shift. Harry's entire wardrobe was shades of brown, i think. and he always wore on of those thin brimmed alpine style felt hats with the little feather. It had been his habit to at times wander through the warehouse at night. No one else fit that description, and at those hours, the warehouse doors were all locked. So that's about it. I would halfway have expected Harry Sr. to be haunting the place too, but i think perhaps he had a nice reward to go to at the end of his life. Harry Jr....... maybe not so much. “

  19. This is from Magie Matousek Brady about her childhood home on Racine St. in Delavan: . “I used to lock my sister in closets when she pestered me. But seeing her face and crying after being locked in my parents' bedroom closet, I stopped doing that. She was terrified of a man's voice begging to, "Help me." It wasn't until we were adults many years later that someone mentioned to me that Mr. Moran (the former owner) had fallen on the tile floor in the bathroom and evidently had been there some time before he died. The closet shares a wall with this bathroom.”

  20. Also on Racine St, this from Gina Gramly: “My house on Racine St. It was built on Indian grounds. There were arrowheads in the Delavan Police Dept, in a case, before they remodeled that came from under our house. Some of them are now at Aram library in Delavan. The owners that lived in our house before us haunted it after they passed, not all bad, just messing with us. But we did have an apparition of a man in uniform on white horse quite a bit in back yard “

  21. 127 S, 4th St. Behind the Library... this from Curt Sawyer .."I was told was haunted scratches on the walls like claw marks and doors. Only heard this did not witness for myself." From Jennifere A. Burton "I can attest to this one, having lived there as well, prior to Cheryl.Loud footsteps going up and down the stairs all night was just the start. Apparition of a grizzly man with thick beard and a bucket hat (think Gordon's fisherman) which I saw on 2 occasions, and yes, one was walking up the stairs. Scariest moment was when I was taking a bath one day, relaxing since no one was home, and I heard the front door slam shut and what sounded like a brawl in the hallway right outside the bathroom door. It was so violent, the bathroom door shook. It sounded like 2 grown men fighting. It ended with footsteps running up the stairs. I flew out to see what was going on. The front door was still locked. Went upstairs and the bedroom light was on, which hadn't been. I searched and no one was in the house but me. It terrifies me to this day! Years later, I heard a similar event took place for another resident." And from Cheryl Bradley " There was 3 spirits in the house. 2 grown men and a little girl. We lived there when my daughters were little. In the master bedroom there are closets that face each other. The changing table was in between the 2 closets. I was changing my youngest when the oldest, then 3 calmly looked up at me and said, "Mommy, there's a little girl in the closet." I must have looked concerned because my 3 year old then said, "It's ok, she's just looking for her mommy." Just the first of many stories I can share. It progressively got worse from there."

  22.  And the Library itself- Investigated by Tina Anderson and her team. They took a picture of the front door and the photo showed a shadow figure. Alex, one of the team, was touched. He asked who was there. When they played back the voice recorder, they heard the name "Bob".  They also heard giggling near the children's section as well as someone saying 'Hi'.

  23.  A house 'behind theater'- This from Ryan Johnson.. "

  24. There is a house behind the old movie theater in downtown Delavan. My grandparents lived there years ago. Back when the circus called Delavan home the people who handled the exotic cats... lions and tigers, etc., owned this property. My family and I had numerous experiences here, and I'd be surprised if activity doesn't continue.

  28.  Spring Grove Cemetary- Delavan - Both Ashley Marie and Renee Richardt report seeing a man standing near the right hand entrance to the cemetary by the St. Andrews section. He's said to wear a black trench coat and a fedora and appeared to have dark around his eyes like glasses. He also looked like he was illuminated, but there were no lights around.

  29. Tyrrell Court Apartments - Delavan - Pictures on walls turn. Hear our names called out or knocking on the front door when no one's there. Ghost cats jump on our beds or rub against our legs. Strange man who shows up in basement. Not sure if he's flesh and blood or not. Lots of events happen in other apartments as well.

  30. Michigan Street Apartments - " alphabet magnets move on my fridge and the cabinets would open an inch or two and close repeatedly"

  32. 3** S. 4th St. - "It started with me experiencing hearing footsteps above my room walking in what would be the attic, above my room diagonally… every so often. I often saw a man standing at the foot of my bed, he seemed darker then the night. In a suit & hat that I have identified during the 1920’s. The feeling like somebody was watching you SO often. I got to where I would run down the stairs because I could feel somebody RIGHT behind me most of the way. One night my parents were talking in their room as the were going to bed & the water in the bathtub across the hall from their room suddenly turned on full blast! My Father went to investigate & said as soon as his finger hit the light switch the water turned off. He even went and felt the bottom of the run to see if he could feel water, which of course he did. We lived on S. 4th street. I still wonder today if anybody who has lived there since has had these kind of experiences. There was one room, upstairs. A kind of half room type of thing - it was ALWAYS extremely cold! Mold actually grew on the walls of that room. My Mom one night said she was going to sleep when she noticed all the curtains in her room were blowing like a big wind was happening outside so she got up & closed her windows only to notice there was no wind outside… it was inside her room. Often we would hear a very heavy this coming from my bedroom when we were downstairs, only to find nothing upstairs when we would investigate. One time I felt threatened, something followed me all the way downstairs and I actually left the house only to look back & see what looked like the man that stood at the end of my bed, starring out my window as I left. I did t want to give the house number out of privacy for whoever is living there now. But this house was SO haunted!! My friend was babysitting one night & when we got home she told us about how she had heard the heavy thud coming from what seemed like my room. I hadn’t told her about our haunting yet. Also my sister saw lights inside the bathroom window one night. The man in my room would walk around my bed sometimes. I could tell because I had a alarm clock that glowed in the dark and you know how you can see if a person were to walk in front of it how the shadow would move across the face of the clock… I saw that several times." Thanks to Cori Randles for this report.

  33. Mound Rd and County F - Site of a fatal car crash involving a newlywed couple. Since then, a car reportedly stalled approaching the intersection as if to slow it down before entering that dangerous intersection.

  35.  Creek Road- north of Turtle Creek School - Someone in a car reported what sounded like a dumptruck full of rocks and gravel being dumped all over car. Got out to investigate but nothing was there.

  36. Somewhere on Barnes Street- House haunted by woman who committed suicide while her kids were asleep in the house. "She would slam the bathroom door at night, leave our fridge door open, change tv channels, even when batteries were taken out of the remote. Once we even unplugged the tv and there was a lag where there was still power. In my teens, her presence lessened (I’m an empath and have a strong sixth sense) and I think she finally left. It was horrible on days home sick from school and alone. She would pace upstairs. It’s an old barn house so the creaking just made me cringe. Even at my 6th grade sleepover… the girls who were over… all but one or two got scared and went home during the night. We could show anyone who came over. My bff once woke up to a black mist at the edge of my bed. She was scared out of her mind."

All first hand experiences there."
